Who maintains NitrateSmart, and how to reach the project — especially if you think a displayed result is wrong.
NitrateSmart is an independent project, built and maintained by one person — what it is for and what it will not claim is on the About page. How the data is gathered, made comparable, and refreshed is laid out on How this is built, with a dated log of corrections.
If a result shown here doesn't match what you know — your utility's own report, a newer test, a system matched to the wrong address — say so. That is not a nuisance to this project; it is how it improves. The most useful challenge names the water system (the name shown on its page, or the PWSID), what you believe is wrong, and what you're comparing against. Before writing, Why our numbers may differ covers the common honest reasons two correct numbers disagree — units, analyte, time window, most-recent versus highest. If a record is wrong, it gets corrected and the correction gets a dated entry in the change log.
The classifications, boundaries, and sources are public and free to read and cite. The maintained dataset behind them — normalized, provenance-tracked, and refreshed — is available for licensing or bulk data access. Inquiries to realperson@nitratesmart.com.
That address takes all three: a result you believe is wrong, a licensing or bulk-data inquiry, and anything else. There is no form and no account — a plain email reaches a person.
For a correction, the three things above make it quick to check: the system name or its PWSID, what looks wrong, and what you are comparing against.
